『 훈민정음 해례』는 세계기록유산으로 UNESCO에 1997년에 등재된 우리나라 국보 70호이다. 한문으로 된『 훈민정음 해례』의 내용 파악이 용이할 수 있도록 다양한 교육매체에서 한글로 된 번역본을 만들어 왔다. 이러한 노력을 통해 다양한 자료들이 등장했음에도 불구하고, 내용 파악이 어려운 이유는 시각적 자료가 부족하기 때문이다. 몇몇 교과서나 그림책에는 그림들이 있기는 하지만 조음의 위치만을 단순히 묘사해서 흥미롭지가 않다.이에 현대를 살아가는 사람들이『 훈민정음 해례』에 대한 관심을 가지고 흥미롭게 보게 하기 위해서 『훈민정음 해례』에 대해 재해석을 하였고, 일러스트레이션으로 추상적으로 표현하여 그림 속에 다양한 뜻을 내포하였다. “Hunminjeongeum Haerye” is Korea’s 70th national treasure, registered in UNESCO in 1997 as a World Record Heritage. Since the original text is written in Chinese, many scholars and educators have produced Korean translations to facilitate a better understanding of its contents.Despite these numerous studies, “Hunminjeongeum Haerye” remains difficult to interpret in depth. One major reason is the lack of sufficient visual data that could support comprehension of its linguistic and phonetic principles.Although a few textbooks and picture books include illustrations, these images tend to merely depict the positions of articulation, offering limited engagement or interpretive depth. To address this limitation, the present book reinterprets “Hunminjeongeum Haerye” through abstract illustrations designed to visualize and connote multiple layers of meaning, thereby encouraging readers to approach the text with renewed interest.

그림 : 이영주 작가 이영주는 어린 시절부터 미술을 해왔으며, 미국에서 정규 미술 교육을 받으며 ArtCenter College of Design에서 일러스트레이션 학위를 취득했습니다. 이후 한국의 홍익대학교에서 시각디자인으로 대학원 과정을 마쳤고, 한글 창제의 원리와 목적을 설명한 원전인 『훈민정음 해례본』을 연구했습니다. 동양과 서양의 예술 전통을 바탕으로, 이영주는 해례본을 현대적 일러스트레이션으로 재해석했습니다. 그녀는 이 작업이 한글의 우수함과 아름다움을 더 넓은 세계에 알리는 씨앗이 되기를 바랍니다. 그녀는 현재 JL Design의 아트 디렉터로 활동 중이며, 안양미술협회 소속 작가이자 국제통번역자원봉사단 청년위원으로도 활동하고 있습니다. Lee Youngju has practiced art from an early age and pursued formal art education in the United States, where she earned a degree in Illustration from the ArtCenter College of Design. She later completed her graduate studies in Visual Design at Hongik University in Korea, where she studied the Hunminjeongeum Haerye, the original text explaining the creation of the Korean alphabet. Drawing from both Eastern and Western artistic traditions, Lee reinterprets the Haerye through contemporary illustration, with the hope that this work may serve as a seed for sharing the excellence and beauty of Hangeul with a wider global audience. She is currently an Art Director at JL Design, an active artist with the Anyang Fine Arts Association, and serves as a Youth Committee member of the International Interpretation and Translation Volunteer Organization.
