서문: 하나 (One) 김리진 2025년 CICA 미술관은 전 세계의 기관들과 협업을 이어가며 세계 각지의 재능 있는 작가들을 소개했습니다. 서적 “One: New Media Art 2026”은 제9회 CICA 뉴미디어 아트 컨퍼런스 2025, 국제 시각문화 심포지엄 2025, Art in Action New York 2025에 참여한 전 세계 51명의 작가를 소개합니다. 2017년에 시작한 CICA 뉴미디어 아트 컨퍼런스(CICA NMAC) 및 개인전 시리즈는 현재 CICA의 주요 연례 행사로 자리매김하였으며, 전 세계의 뉴미디어 아티스트, 전문가, 연구자들이 CICA 미술관에 모여 3일간의 컨퍼런스와 솔로 전시에서 발표를 진행합니다. 올해 참가자들은 인공지능, 정치적 이슈, 뉴미디어 아트와 문화 전반에 관한 주제들에 대한 담론을 나누었습니다. CICA NMAC은 예술가와 연구자들이 모여 뉴미디어 아트와 문화에 대한 심도 깊은 학술적 사유와 이론을 발표하고 공유할 수 있는 기회를 제공하며, 향후 협력과 프로젝트를 위한 네트워크를 형성할 수 있도록 돕습니다. 개인적으로도 CICA NMAC을 통해 훌륭한 작가들을 만날 수 있었던 경험은 매우 특별했으며, 이 플랫폼이 앞으로도 서로 다른 문화를 잇는 교두보가 되기를 바랍니다. 국제 시각문화 심포지엄(ISVC)은 2020년 팬데믹 시기에 시작되었으며, 시각문화에 대한 다양하고 비판적인 관점을 다루는 국제적 플랫폼입니다. ISVC를 통해 연구자, 예술가, 시각문화의 생산자와 소비자 간 글로벌 네트워크를 구축하고, 국제적 시각에서 비판적 담론과 시각문화에 대한 깊은 이해를 촉진하고자 합니다. 올해 심포지엄은 워싱턴 D.C. 인접 지역인 미국 메릴랜드주 실버스프링 다운타운에 위치한 몽고메리 칼리지(Montgomery College)에서 개최되었습니다. 오늘날 사회는 마케팅, 정치, 문화적 목적성을 지닌 방대한 시각 콘텐츠에 둘러싸여 있으며, 이러한 시대적 맥락 속에서 비판적 담론의 중요성은 더욱 커지고 있습니다. 올해 ISVC를 통해 콘텐츠 생산자, 연구자, 수용자 간의 비판적 사고와 대화를 촉진하기 위한 새로운 기관 협력 가능성을 발견할 수 있었습니다. Art in Action은 올해 미국 뉴욕 맨해튼에서 처음으로 시작된 실험적 프로젝트입니다. 이 프로젝트는 예술 및 창의적 작업을 선보이는 새로운 방식을 탐구하는 동시에, 예술가, 애호가, 국내외 관객에게 의미 있는 경험과 전문적 네트워크를 제공하는 것을 목표로 합니다. 본 프로그램에서는 예술가, 디자이너, 연구자들의 15분 발표 세션이 진행되었으며, 참가자들의 프로젝트는 CICA 미술관에서 열린 “Art in Action: Concurrent Show” 국제전과 소셜미디어를 통해 소개되었습니다. 이를 통해 아티스트와 연구자들의 주체적인 목소리가 더욱 활발히 확산되기를 바랍니다. 각자의 영역에서 새로운 지평을 탐구하며 프로젝트를 적극적으로 선보여 주신 참여 작가 및 연구자 여러분께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 탐구 정신, 지성, 비판적 사고는 앞으로도 우리 프로젝트의 중심에 있을 것이며, 이러한 정신이 분열이 아닌 ‘하나(one)’를 향해 나아가도록 이끌어 줄 것이라 믿습니다. 인공지능과 로보틱스를 포함한 글로벌 기술 혁신의 거대한 변화의 흐름이 예술과 문화를 포함한 우리의 삶 전반에 영향을 미치는 이 시점에서, 적극적인 목소리를 담아낼 플랫폼을 유지하는 것은 우리 모두를 이로운 방향으로 이끌 것이라는 신념으로 자리 잡게 되었습니다. 지난 12년간 CICA의 기관과 공간을 유지하고 지속하기 위해 최선을 다해 왔으며, CICA의 가능성과 가치를 믿고 함께해 주신 모든 분들께 깊이 감사드립니다. Into: One Leejin Kim In 2025, CICA Museum continued its collaboration with organizations worldwide while featuring talented artists from across the world. One: New Media Art 2026 features 51 artists worldwide who participated in the 9th CICA New Media Art Conference 2025, the International Symposium for Visual Culture 2025, and Art in Action New York 2025. Launched in 2017, the CICA New Media Art Conference (CICA NMAC) and Solo Exhibition Series have become one of our major annual events. New media artists, professionals, and researchers from all around the world gathered at the CICA Museum and presented during the three-day conference and solo exhibitions. This year, participants explored themes of artificial intelligence, political issues, and topics in new media art and culture. CICA NMAC provides artists and scholars with opportunities to present and share in-depth scholarly thoughts and theories on new media art and culture with colleagues, and to create networks for future collaborations and initiatives. It has been a magical moment for me personally to meet amazing artists and researchers through CICA NMAC, and I hope it continues to serve as a global platform while bridging different cultures. Since its initiation in 2020 during the pandemic, the International Symposium for Visual Culture (ISVC) has served as an international platform for diverse and critical perspectives on visual culture. Through this project, we aim to build a global network of researchers, artists, and makers/consumers of visual culture, fostering critical discourse and deeper understanding of visual culture on a global scale. This year, the symposium was hosted by Montgomery College, Silver Spring Downtown, Maryland, adjacent to Washington, D.C. Critical discourse has become crucial in contemporary society, where we are flooded with visual content carrying marketing, political, and cultural implications, and we found new possibilities for collaboration with institutions to foster critical thinking and dialogue among cultural content makers, researchers, and consumers. Art in Action was first launched this year in Manhattan, New York. Art in Action is an experimental project aiming to explore new ways of showcasing art and creative projects while providing meaningful experiences and professional networks for artists, enthusiasts, and local and international audiences. It features 15-minute presentations by artists, designers, and researchers, while showcasing their projects in Art in Action: Concurrent Show at the CICA Museum and through social media, and fostering their active voices. As always, I appreciate our featured artists and researchers from the bottom of my heart, who continue to explore new territories within their subject matters and showcase their projects. The spirit of exploration, intellectuality, and criticism will remain at the center of our projects, and I believe this spirit will lead us toward “one” rather than fragmentation. Through twelve years of ongoing projects, we have grown a firm belief that preserving a platform for active voices is crucial at this point, on the verge of global technological innovations in AI and robotics that will alter our lives, including art and culture. We have tried our best to preserve and sustain our organization and its facilities, and I truly appreciate everyone who has found possibilities and value in us and who has supported and worked with us.
